Norths Devils v Easts Tigers Bishop Park Sunday 13th July, 3pm Gutsy, gutsy, gutsy. That one word sums up the Tigers win over the Devils on Sunday. In an attempt to break a five game losing streak the Norths Devils bought the heavy artillery, in the form of young behemoths Jarrod Wallace and Francis Molo,…
After yesterdays post about the upcoming release of ISC jerseys with Marvel branding, fans from other clubs got super jealous that they would have their own superhero jerseys to buy. Many speculated about which character would be best suited to their club colours, so I’ve taken it upon myself to give each remaining NRL club…
With 18 rounds of the NRL now complete and Origin in the rear view it is now time to buckle in for the run to the NRL finals in September. As usual at this time of year the top and tail of the competition seems relatively settled but it is in the middle third where…
Last night’s game between the Panthers and the Broncos was without a doubt the best Monday Night game of the season. It may even be THE game of the season. The Panthers suffered injuries to in form winger Josh Mansour as well as livewire backrower turn five-eighth Tyrone Peachey yet had just enough in the…
News Limited is reporting that Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter has not yet signed a contract to remain as the Wests Tigers coach beyond 2014 and that his future remains uncertain. With the Tigers at long odds to make the finals this year, and with turmoil at board level at the club, Potter could find…
We’re now 20 rounds in and it is official that the London Broncos will be playing in the Championship next year, with Bradford almost certain to follow. The Broncos have prepared though, and it’s good to see. Round 20 includes a few big score-lines, and a few shock ones, too. Wakefield Wildcats vs Widnes Vikings…

The on again, off again side that is the New Zealand Warriors have finally had more on days lately than off, and it looks like it all comes down to Andrew McFadden. The Warriors have won five of their past six games, including their last three straight. Their latest victory was a scintillating 48-0 win…
Cronulla Sharks captain Paul Gallen could miss the rest of the season with scans this week to determine the extent of a bicep injury he picked up in the Sharks 31-18 loss at home to the Newcastle Knights. Bicep injuries tend to be one of those rotten injuries that are never have a good outcome….

News Limited is reporting that the Canterbury Bulldogs are chasing Australian Rugby Union player Kurtley Beale. Beale is off contract and has been pushing for a better deal from the ARU for a while. This could very well be a toss up by his management to get the ARU to lock him into a deal…
The Manly Sea Eagles smashed the Wests Tigers 40-8 on Friday night. Despite the one sided thrashing the big talking point was a mistake by referee Shayne Hayne in the opening minutes of the match. The Wests Tigers looked to have scored at try, or at least gone very, very close. Shayne Hayne chose to…
During State Of Origin three Greg Bird was hit with a stray elbow by Nate Myles and hit the deck for a couple of minutes. It was something Paul Gallen made a bit of a joke about in the post match press conference. Mal Meninga also mentioned it in the Queensland post match press conference…
Sometimes it doesn’t matter what players do or say, they are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t. For many years now it has been made quite clear that Darius Boyd does not want to talk to the media. For what ever reason, Boyd has made the decision that he does not want…
Both the Sydney Morning Herald and News Limited are reporting that Wayne Bennett will be coaching the St George/Illawarra Dragons in 2015 with a deal expected to be worth $3 million over three years. A mystery private backer is set to give the cash strapped Dragons the ability to pay Bennett (Because that worked so…
State Of Origin three felt like an exhibition game. You could very much tell the series was over just by the way the game was played. It was very strange. So now it is time to hand down the player ratings for State Of Origin three. Remember that my ratings system is on an all…
The NRL has announced sanctions against players and officials who have been found guilty of placing bets on Rugby league matches. The players suspended are: David Williams – Suspended for the rest of the 2014 season after placing multiple bets on games – including several in which he was involved. Ethan Lowe – Suspended for…
Queensland has belted New South Wales 32-8 in State Of Origin three. The Maroons dominated most of the game in terms of field position and quality possession and New South Wales rarely got at chance to attack the Queensland line during the match. While the Blues managed to hang in early, and even managed to…
The long awaited (by hard core Raiders fans) first grade debut of Jeremy Hawkins will sadly not come this season after the NRL ruled Hawkins out on the basis of the 2nd tier salary cap. Whilst it is disappointing for Hawkins, Raiders fans should not be so quick to blame the hated 2nd tier cap…
Round 19 saw a chain of shock results, including in the Wakefield vs Leeds game, a close win for Catalan and an easy win for the Wigan Warriors. Widnes Vikings vs Castleford Tigers An experiment for both teams before the real important Challenge Cup Semi-Final in Leigh for these two sides. Castleford settled their nerves…
News Limited is reporting that Manly Sea Eagles winger David Williams could be banned from the rest of the 2014 season after the NRL Integrity Unit uncovered a long history of Williams betting on Rugby League matches. Disturbingly, it is being alleged that Williams bet on games the Manly Sea Eagles played it, but never…

It is a fact that there is a warehouse in Queensland full of boxes. In those boxes are maroon colour t-shirts. On the front of those t-shirts is a big, dirty sticker that reads “9 in a row”. I’ll be thinking of those t-shirts tonight as New South Wales runs out onto Lang Park looking…
Brad Walter at the Sydney Morning Herald is among the premier rugby league writers in Australia. In addition to his regular reporting Walter also produces a weekly opinion piece titled “Winning Starts Monday”. I’ll let you guess what day of the week it runs (surprise – it’s Tuesday). The premise of this week’s column (http://www.canberratimes.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/cutting-players-down-to-size-pays-dividends-for-blues-and-clubs-20140707-zsyp1.html)…
Perhaps I’m the only one but I find myself thoroughly unenthused about State of Origin III tonight. Now that NSW have slain the 8 in a row dragon there seems very little to get excited about. I’m convinced that I am not the only fan who feels this way as the breathless anticipation and fervor…
News Limited is reporting that a high profile NRL player will be banned for six weeks for betting on Rugby League matches. Players and officials are not permitted to bet on any Rugby League games under the terms of their NRL contracts. Other players face fined for betting on Rugby League games and there is…
Tomorrow night will see NSW attempt to record a whitewash, rather than avoid one, which has unfortunately for us long suffering NSW fans, been the flavour of the past almost decade. In this series we have seen Jarryd Hayne become an absolute legend of the game, the emergence of young Hodkinson and Reynolds as a…
He might earn hundreds of thousands of dollars to coach only three games a yeah, but it seems that Mal Meninga is unwilling to fulfill all of his commitments as Queenslands State Of Origin coach. Queensland cancelled media events Monday and then confirmed that they would send Cameron Smith to a pre game press conference…
Sometimes you just have to be the better person and admit your mistakes. You need to sit down, think about what you have done, and come to the conclusion that you need to make amends for your actions. As the Penrith Panthers find themselves atop of the NRL ladder, again, we have seen a bit…
As we approach State of Origin Three, which in terms of the series doesn’t really matter, players seem to be putting their club futures at risk. Josh Morris has taken extraordinary measures to be fit for Origin Three after suffering a potentially season altering injury in the first game of the series. Luke Lewis will…
