St George/Illawarra Dragons Risk Losing Trent Merrin To Rival Clubs

News Limited is reporting that the Brisbane Broncos have targeted New South Wales State Of Origin forward Trent Merrin as a perfect replacement for Corey Parker as the club looks towards it’s longer term future.

Merrin is not off contract until the end of the 2015 season. That means rival NRL clubs can not even negotiate with Merrin until November 1st.

With Merrin on a below average contract for a regular State Of Origin player, it seems as though his manager is trying to give the Dragons a little bit of incentive to upgrade Merrin’s contract ahead of time and wrap up his long term future in the famous Rev V jersey.

Trent Merrin is a very handy player that most clubs would love to have in their side. He is a very mobile forward with a big motor and if he does hit the open market the Dragons will have a fight on their hands holding onto him.

I’d expect the Dragons to upgrade and extend his contract before November 1st.
