Fairfax is reporting that players from the Manly Sea Eagles and Gold Coast Titans are under investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit for placing bets on Rugby League matches.
The NRL released a statement yesterday refuting claims that they were investigating a wide spread betting problem within the game.
While the bets in question are small, any players that signs an NRL contract is prohibited from betting on Rugby League completely. It can very easily become a slippery slope when it comes to undermining the integrity of the game, so it’s simply easier to ban it all together.
Let’s hope the NRL gets to the bottom of this pretty quickly. The last thing Rugby League needs is another drawn out investigation.
