Fairfax Media is reporting that the St George/Illawarra Dragons have offered Benji Marshall a one year contract extension, believed to be worth around $300,000.
Marshall joined the Dragons after a very brief stint playing Rugby Union in New Zealand. There has been a few rumours that he would re-join the Wests Tigers next season if the Dragons couldn’t come up with a decent offer. Now the ball is in Benji’s court. Whether he stayed or goes is totally up to whether or not he likes the deal.
I’m glad the Dragons made Marshall an offer. I think he has played well for them. Sure he has moments where he doesn’t play all that great, but so does every other player in the game.
Marshall has been a key figure in the Dragons quest to rebuild. Until such time as they have someone who is better than him to take his place, they should hold onto him.
