The Parramatta Eels have handed coach Brad Arthur a two year contract extension, and fullback Clint Gutherson a three year contract extension, just days after the club was thrashed by the Melbourne Storm by a scoreline of 64-10.
Arthur, who had just a 46% success rate in 137 matches as the Eels head coach, becomes the first coach to actually earn more time and money out of his contract after such a massive loss.
Gutherson meanwhile earned more money this season, and a highly upgraded contract into the future, despite openly saying on League Life the previous night that the only other rumoured suiter he had, the Manly Sea Eagles, had not tabled a formal offer to his manager.
What are the Parramatta Eels thinking?
The drums are now beating for the club to re-sign half Mitchell Moses, and it seems the Parramatta Eels football club is more than happy to secure the bulk of a side that won the NRL wooden spoon in 2018.
It was enough to get a wild reaction out of both League Freak and Andrew Ferguson on their Fergo And The Freak Podcast. Click below to have a listen to what they had to say about these contract moves and the Eels clubs race for the middle of the table.
