Serving Bans Only In State Of Origin Games Is A Stupid Idea

Because a knee jerk reaction from the NRL has seen an issue (fighting) that was under control blow up to dominate discussion in the game, it has allowed crazies to come out of the woodwork and put forward ideas that do not pass the ten second test.

What is the ten second test? Well if you can completely gut and idea and show why it is ridiculous without ten seconds, the idea probably shouldn’t have been put forward in the first place.

That is where the idea to ban players only from State Of Origin games comes in. The idea being that, players value State Of Origin games more than club games, and they would not fight if they knew they could be banned from one or two State Of Origin matches.

Great!

So what happens if you bring this rule in and, as happens in Rugby League, a player accidentally puts on a really bad night tackle that would normally see them miss six club matches? Are we really going to ban a player from two years worth of State Of Origin football?

Of course not!

Some of the people being given a voice in the media right now have no idea what they are talking about. Their ideas do not pass the ten second test. How anyone could take these ideas and decide to publish them is beyond me.

Then again, it allows me to point out how stupid some of these ideas are on this web site, so let’s hope they continue!
