Sian Reed – Round 23 Super League Preview

So I only accurately guessed one result last week which is dismal! Let’s hope this week is better!

Wigan vs Salford, Thursday 31st July, 8pm, SKY
After last week’s loss against Bradford, surely Shaun Wane won’t let Wigan lose this week or he will literally beat them to a pulp. I assumed he’d fielded a Wigan side when the result came in but surprisingly not! They’ll step it up this week for sure. Salford, on the other hand, had a battle with Leeds and might well be knackered. With the return of the mighty Joel Tomkins, they can only go up. I see another battering coming along this week for Salford, however one that they might not be able to fight back in. Wigan to win by 30 points.

Hull FC vs St Helens, Friday 1st August, 8pm
The mighty Hull FC had a tough battle against Castleford so may be a wee bit tired. St Helens had a convincing win against Widnes so should be well prepared. However, the game itself will mean so much more to the players as they play for the Steve Prescott Cup. This should hopefully inspire both teams but for the first time I’m going to go with my heart and say Hull to win by 8 points.

Leeds vs Bradford, Friday 1st August, 8pm
Derby day. Both of them won last weekend. One a shock, one not so much. After Bradford’s shock win against Wigan, I really don’t think Brian McDermott will let Leeds slip up whatsoever. As much as it sickens me to say, Leeds may win the Grand Final (again). Even without Sinfield this week , they’ve got talent all over the park. Leeds win by 40 points.

Catalans vs Warrington, Friday 1st August, 8pm, SKY
After suffering defeats last weekend, both teams will want to prove that they have what it takes to be in with an outside chance with being at Old Trafford in October. If Catalan win, they cement their place in the top 8; if Warrington win, they might get into the top four depending on other results. Catalans at home are a different opponent to when they’re away; however I think Warrington might sneak a win. Warrington to win by 4 points.

Castleford vs London, Sunday 3rd August, 3.30pm
I don’t really think this will be much of a contest. Castleford to win by 40+ points.

Wakefield vs Huddersfield, Sunday 3rd August, 3pm
Now I think this could be the game of the weekend. Both have had a fair bit of form as of late so this is why I think it’ll be a good game. Shame we won’t get to see it on Sky though! I genuinely have no idea which way this game will go so I’ll have to go for a 20-24 point draw.

Widnes vs Hull KR, Sunday 3rd August, 3pm
Both have been inconsistent this season. Widnes are only one point above Rovers and clinging onto that eighth place so the stakes are high for this game. It’ll be a tough encounter between these two sides but I think Widnes being at home will probably have the edge. Widnes to win by 6 points.
