Worst Rugby League Commentators – April 2010

They are the voice of the game in many ways, and some of them are just bloody terrible. This is a list of the current five worst Rugby League commentators in the game today. They can range from radio, to television, to the sidelines, anyone who talks in to a microphone about Rugby League basically.

1. Matt Adamson
From his stupid questions to players in interviews, his useless sideline information, his “Exclusive” interviews with players on the sideline, his gibbering, or the way he likes to tongue Matthew Elliotts arse every time he covers a Penrith Panthers game. He is universally disliked and a horrible commentator.

2. Phil Clarke
If you have nothing smart to say, just keep quiet. Problem for Clarke is, he wouldn’t say a word for two hours! From stating the bleeding obvious “I think we’ll see St Helens and Wigan in the playoffs this year” to his in depth analysis of a coaches game play “He has obviously told them to run faster and tackle harder”, Clarke can speak well for a former player, its just that everything he says is stupid.

3. Shaun McRae
In Australia, coaches refuse to say much about opposition teams as they don’t want to give anyone motivation. This didn’t stop failed South coach Shaun McRae from getting his hands on a microphone though. A veteran of the Sky Sports team in the UK, McRae had no problems taking time out to work for Fox Sports while his team struggled. He got sacked and headed back to England where his lack of knowledge of the game in regularly inflicted on English fans once again….as his team continues to fail!

4. Darryl Brohman
I like The Big Marn, I really do. The thing is, a commentators job should be able to provide listeners with information about the game. Too often Brohman is too buying being the butt of jokes or talking about random subjects about the game. Put it this way, when was the last time Brohman, a Premiership winner and an Origin player, provided great analysis of one a game? Lift your game Big Marn!

5. Stuart Raper
From a great Rugby League family, he has been a first grade coach himself on both sides of the world, yet, he never really gives you a great insight into anything. He passes on information ok, but you never really feel like he is giving you a coaches view, or even the view of someone that knows his shit. Maybe he sticks to closely to the script, and it just doesn’t provide much.

  1. I can’t believe Ray ‘You’re making my fucking ears bleed’ Hadley didn’t make this list! He makes every game he calls on TV un-watchable. He calls the game like a horse race. GTFO Hadley!
