| Manly Win The World Club Challenge Trial Game!!! |
I know its late, but seriously, if you have been waiting to read this then you life is meaningless and you should go and shoot yourself in the face right now.
Go on.....I'll wait.....
.....
.....
Right, now for everyone left, the World Club Challenge wasn't shown until Monday night over here, such is its importance in the Australian Rugby League calender.
Manly won, Leeds lost, no one really cares.
What a great fixture!
A few things come out of the game thought I'd like to mention.
First of all, the decision to award a try to Jamie Jones-Buchanan after Danny McGuire had knocked on in goal pretty much sums up the convoluted farce that is the World Club Challenge.
Matt Orford did well to hold up McGuire, who, in his haste to promote the ball after the tackle was completed, knocked on in goal. The fumbled ball was then pounced on by JJB.
It should have been a knock on in goal, a 20 meter tap to the Sea Eagles and play on, however you find these mind blowing decisions in every World Club Challenge game that goes the way of the English sides.
Another moment that caught my attention was the hysterical sight of a completely out of his depth Jamie Peacock.
As always, Peacock was getting battered throughout the entire game. Once he hits the defensive line he doesn't make another inch, even against poor opposition, so against the Manly Sea Eagles he was dominated even further.
As you find with most of the supposed tough guys in the British game, they are easy to frustrate and it took a few words from Josh Perry to send Peacock into a false rage.
I have seen fewer sights that are as funny as a flailing Jamie Peacock trying to fight, but just coping punch after punch to the face by Perry, who looked about as worried as a shit sandwich at a five course gourmet meal!
As Perry battered Peacock, the predictable happens.
In runs Ryan Bailey, 110kgs of uselessness, throwing random punches at anyone he can, and predictably, hurting no one.
In fact Baily did this on two separate occasions in the match, both times running in from a long distance and throwing punches that didn't land. He should have been sent to the sin bin for it both times.
Then again, that was about the most impact he had in this or any game lately. A big lump of nothingness.
I thought Peacock deserved his ten in the bin, but Perry was hard done by.
It was not a very good Manly performance. They basically played one out football for 80% of the game, as you would expect in a trail match. Still as is easy to do with English teams, they frustrated Leeds very quickly.
When Super League teams don't score a try after two sets of six, they panic, and when they panic, they do stupid things that lead to stupid errors.
Manly will have got nothing out of this game as far as the NRL season goes. The opposition was far too poor and their performance was way to patchy, even at this early stage in their trials.
At the end of the day we just watched a nothing game, a trail match for one side, a self promoting, self-suck session that went begging for the other side.
They have talked about moving this game to a neutral location or playing it in Australia, but they always do this after World Club Challenge games. Expect it to be played in Huddersfield or Bolton or somewhere similar again next season.

I'm still laughing at Jamie Peacock trying to fight!!! Maybe he had too much red cordial before the game I've actually recreated that 'fight' he had with Josh Perry and using the very latest computer technology I have come up with the fact that 99.45% of peoples grandmothers would have put up a better fight than Jamie |

The best part is the Poms will reference this fight for the next ten years as a reason why peacock was so intimidating! |
