Good Ideas Done Poorly – July 2006

Rugby League is a game of poor administration. Always had been, always will be. So lets look at the best things in the game that are just ruined by the men in suits.

1. The World Club Challenge
Played as a a lead in to the Super League season and a pre-preseason match for the NRL participants, the World Club Challenge is an exhibition game and nothing more. Its a shame because what should be a showpiece event in the game is a farce.

2. The World Sevens
A great way to expand the game, a great way to get something different on the Rugby League calender….and the powers that be completely f*ck it up.

3. The Rugby League World Cup
Played….well, when ever the powers that be can be arsed to play it, set up on the run, on the cheap and no promoted. With no eligibility rules and full of Aussies players for other nations, its a pale imitation of what it should really be.

4. IRLF Meetings
All nations meet up in Sydney or Leeds. They talk for a few days and NOTHING ever comes out of these meetings at all. At least all of those officials get a paid for holiday!

5. The Tri Series
Refs appointed on the run, not promoted at all, run as an after though. Typical Rugby League!
