League Freaks 2013 State Of Origin Three Player Ratings

The 2013 Rugby League State Of Origin series is now over. Game three saw Queensland win their 8th straight State Of Origin series and now we can all look back and rate the players.

My State Of Origin player ratings are harsh. I don’t really care if you like them or not. I don’t want to heard your whinging. I don’t want to hear you crying over some deadbeat player that didn’t turn up and how they play for some terrible, bottom of the ladder NRL team.

I’d suggest if you are a big fan of Mitchell Pearce, Aaron Woods or Robie Farah you stop reading right now.

So, lets get stuck into rating the performances of every player in game three of the State Of origin series. You’ve waited for these:

QLD State Of Origin Team – Game Three
1. Billy Slater – 6
Played alright but just didn’t have that spark we are used to seeing. Hardly troubled New South Wales.

2. Brent Tate – 7
Looked for work all night and didn’t blow out one of his knees. I’d say that is a pretty good result!

3. Greg Inglis – 3
Don’t think I’ve ever rated Greg Inglis this low. Didn’t get involved and then got injured. This its time he moved to fullback at rep level.

4. Justin Hodges – 7
His battle with Jennings was great to watch. Not as dominant in this match but he probably would have been my player of the series.

5. Darius Boyd – 7
He’s just super reliable. He will be a winger at rep level as long as he wants as long as he keeps playing like this.

6. Johnathan Thurston – 6
Once again he was kept quiet. Makes you wonder about his future. A great player, but his best performances and getting further and further apart.

7. Cooper Cronk – 8
Showed New South Wales what its like to have a halfback. His kicking game was spot on all night.

8. Matt Scott – 8
Played his best game of the series. Gave great go forward and was tough in defense.

9. Cameron Smith – 8
Guided the Maroons around the field really well. Got through a heap of work. One of the best leaders I have ever seen on the sporting field.

10. Nate Myles – 8
What a player! Had another great game. Gets to hear Blues forwards cry over his existence for another year.

11. Chris McQueen – 8
Just worked his arse off all night. Really showed he belongs at this level. What a great series he had!

12. Sam Thaiday – 7
Played well but not the same devastating performance we saw in Origin two.

13. Corey Parker – 8
Another fantastic performance. Strong in attack and defense. Would have just about been my player of the series.

14. Daly Cherry-Evans – 8
Came on when QLD needed another forward. Played like a forward. Hit the ball up. Left it all on the field. Incredible!

15. Ben Te’o – 5
Once again, he didn’t see much game time. Now has no legal issues either.

16. Matt Gillett – 6
Had a bit of an unhappy game but when he was on the field he worked his arse off!

17. Josh Papalii – 6
Wasn’t used all that much by Big Mal.

NSW State Of Origin Team – Game Three
1. Josh Dugan – 8
Every time he touched the ball he looked like he was going to drop it. Still, he played really well. Turned up to save the day in defense a number of times.

2. Brett Morris – 5
Didn’t see much of the ball.

3. Michael Jennings – 6
Was great in defense but pretty limited in attack. His battle with Hodges was great to watch.

4. Josh Morris – 7
Was really strong in defense. Kept Greg Inglis quiet. When was the last time you could say anyone did that!

5. James McManus – 6
Was having a great night but one simple knock on really cost New South Wales. Wonder if losing an Origin game was worth missing the World Cup for. His match payment would suggest it is.

6. James Maloney – 6
Did his best playing a lone hand as the only playmaker in the side. He did pretty well too. I’d have him back again next season.

7. Mitchell Pearce – 0
Fucking terrible. Should never played another ref game again. He has played more games than any other halfback in NSW Origin history. Still a loser. Still not up to it. The selectors should go with him.

8. Aaron Woods – 0
Did nothing, again. The softest forward in State Of Origin history. Runs around cuddling players. He should sell pillows, beds, tissues and toilet paper for a living. Mr Softness.

9. Robbie Farah (C) – 3
His kicking game was diabolical. Kicking to ball to for your outside backs when NOTHING is on. Just terrible.

10. James Tamou – 8
Once again provided excellent go forward when he was on the field.

11. Ryan Hoffman – 4
I didn’t think he was up to State Of Origin level going into this series. He proved me right in every single game.

12. Luke Lewis – 7
Was playing really well until injury struck.

13. Greg Bird – 8
Had a hell of a game. Put on some crushing hits in defense. He isn’t the same player he once was in attack though.

14. Boyd Cordner – 7
Did everything you could have asked as a young bloke in his first State Of Origin game. He will be a starter next season.

15. Andrew Fifita – 7
Got through a heap of work but didn’t have the same impact. The heavy ground hurt him I think. Lacked speed running onto the ball.

16. Trent Merrin – 6
Scored a try and was solid when on the field.

17. Anthony Watmough – 9
Was unbelievable! Caused Queensland all sorts of problem while he was on the field. About as good of a performance off the bench as you will ever see.

  1. Usually enjoy reading the articles this site posts, but the above analysis of the Origin series is insulting to the intelligence of NRL and LeagueFreak followers.

  2. Only looked at the NSW ratings I fully agree except for farrah played better then a 3 his licking was poor but played good through the ruck but Pearce was terrible, woods was terrible, bird was inspiring and watmough was great with quick play the balls and Dugan and Jennings stepped up

  3. How the hell does Farah get scored the same as Inglis? Inglis had next to no involvement, while Farah was everywhere for the full 80 minutes, made 45 tackles, did his job as hooker and even picked up kicking duties from the slacking NSW halves. I said it before in my previous comment, but I’ll say it again, judging his overall performance because of a hail mary, last chance kick is stupid and idiotic. I am not the biggest fan of Robbie Farah’s, but you should give credit where it is due.
