Features Guest Writers: Wilkzy – Leeds Crowned World Champions

The Rhinos edged out the Storm in terrible weather conditions to give themselves the right to be called world champions. Whether you agree they are truly the best team in the world is up to you.

We can’t say for certain because the game isn’t played on a level playing field. Leeds were already 4 games into their Super Leagueseason whereas this was the Storms first competitive hit out, their season still a few weeks away.

Most regular NRL viewers would tell you that if the game was played on a level playing field the Australian team would win, and that’s probably true, but you can’t prove it until we play the fecking game on a level playing field and until then all we have is a series of Super League victories, continued on by Leeds last night.

The game itself was extremely tough, a real war of attrition down to the atrocious weather conditions. Both sets of forwards didn’t take any backwards steps and there were some crunching hits. Dallas Johnson was excellent for Melbourne getting through a tremendous amount of work, whereas for Leeds the likes of Diskin and Ellis stood out.

Neither team really had a strangle hold on the game, it was very even throughout with Sinfield’s kicking proving decisive. Lots of credit must go to the Storm who have conducted themselves magnificently while over here.

Leeds coped tremendously well after losing key playmaker Danny Mcguire through injury early in the first half, this caused a lot of disruption but Leeds dug in and handled it well.

So Leeds are the world champions. That’s the way it is and that’s what’ll go down in the record books. We organize this event, we get 30k crowds in, make lots of money and all you Aussies do is rubbish the event.

Last time Leeds won the WCC in 2005 they challenged any Aussie team to play them in their own backyard the next time they won Super League and no Aussie team took up the challenge.

So if you aren’t prepared to organize the event so the odds are a little more stacked in your favour then shut the fuck up moaning when the odds are against you and we inevitably win. Leeds have every right to be called the best team in the world. If you don’t like it then prove you are the best by beating us, organize the game for a better time, get a level playing field and prove it.

Until then the record books say a series of Super League champions, whether a true reflection or not.

We are quite happy to keep churning out WCC wins and 30k crowds. If you don’t like it, fine, organize a more even event.

No, you don’t want to? You’ll make more money in England? Fair enough, just stop moaning and making excuses when we call ourselves world champs.
